Inside the Mannequin Graveyard: Creepy Former RAF Base Is Home to 15,000 Figures

โ€œIn a move that surprised absolutely no one who has ever felt watched by a department store display, a former RAF base in Lincolnshire is now home to 15,000 rescued mannequins. Mannakin Hall โ€” yes, that is the real name โ€” was started by Roz Edwards from her council house in Newark, who apparently looked at landfill-bound plastic people and thought "I can work with this." Visitors can tour the collection, paint a mannequin, and even do paranormal investigations, because obviously the mannequin graveyard is haunted.โ€

Why It's Weird

The most bewildering news often comes from situations where multiple unlikely events align perfectly. While the weirdness score is more modest, the story still offers a fascinating glimpse into life's unexpected moments.

Itโ€™s the creepy site where mannequins go to die.

But the attraction on a former RAF base is so popular that its opening its doors to the public for events filled with history, art and a few ghost stories.

Mannakin Hall, in Fulbeck, Lincolnshire, is home to 15,000 mannequins rescued from landfill.

And though the creepy figures piled up around the site may look as if theyโ€™re at rest, many have gone back out into the world to grace film and TV sets as well as music videos.

The idea was born when Roz Edwards, a former retail consultant, started a small mannequin hire business from her council house in Newark in 2007.

Her business quickly grew and she moved from one location to the next until 2012, when she found what is now the Mannakin Hall site at the former RAF Fulbeck.

The open days will allow guests to immerse themselves in the rich history of the site, which was once the dining quarters for American soldiers during the Second World War.

There will also be a virtual tour of the ground taking in the vast collection of mannequins. Visitors can unleash their inner artist by painting a mannequin of their own.

Braver guests can also take part in a paranormal experience in the evening, where experts will attempt to communicate with spirits.

Steven Williams, who took part in the first 2026 open day on January 10, said: โ€˜Mannakin is one of those rare locations that feels purpose-built for a photographer, ordinary and extraordinary at the same time, with limitless potential, with every corner suggesting a different story.โ€™

Open days take place on the second Saturday of the month, except November, and December, with visitors welcomed from 1pm to 5pm. The next will take place on Saturday, March 14.

Mannakin Hall is also hosting Ladies In Vans events, which start at noon the day before each open day, and run for 24 hours.

Women are invited to bring their camper vans and choose a mannequin to paint, then experience the magic of the site at night.

Tickets for the events can be booked here.

Malta Will Pay Young Drivers $29,000 to Surrender Their License for Five Years

Malta has launched a scheme offering young drivers โ‚ฌ25,000 to surrender their driving licenses for five years โ€” essentially paying people to stop wanting a car. The catch: once surrendered, the license is permanently suspended, and you'll need 15 hours of lessons to ever legally drive again. Initial interest has been described as "very high," which says something about either Malta's traffic or the state of millennial finances.

Japanese furniture maker Cellutane has created a life-sized Psyduck bead-filled sofa chair โ€” because if you are going to have a stress-induced breakdown, you might as well do it inside a giant, perpetually overwhelmed Pokemon. The chair is stuffed with sugobeads for maximum sink-in comfort, has a machine-washable cover, and costs a very reasonable $183 for the privilege of being hugged by a creature who truly gets it.
